Hi NITCians/RECians

Here I’m trying to write what happened last week of march in our campus, As some part of it is based on what I heard by other students that may or may not 100 % true. Even what came in newspaper is not 99% correct.

Even dispute is over,but patrolling jeep is still running routinely in campus. In our college there are two student political groups Independents and radicals who fight for internal elections(student counsel).Actually they don't have much power in internal things like other universities student union since it is deemed university. Radicals loosing elections since two years, so they were feeling like wounded. Last week they beaten few students outside the campus for the reasons I don't know. So only 6 of Radicals are involved in these activities bcz they have contacts with SFI (Student Federation Of India) whome CPI (communist) supports. College students are demanding to take steps against those 6,but college was not listening, so students already angry on NITC's director Dr GRC Reddy. SFI is a big organization and have effects in almost all the educational organizations in kerala. They (SFI) want their presence in NIT too. So one day SFI were having meeting with those 6 radicals in E hostel, when college students told him to go outside they returned back with police and around 50 SFIs. Really problem started from here.... They entered upto MB (main building), they started shouting (Inkalab Jindabad) n stoning in campus (while police was present,newspapers also talked U can read in attachment). Then we around 500 came and started stoning on them,then they repelled out. Then college students (we) stoned and broken director's office glasses to show anger n broken doors of all the 6 radicals and thrown all the items, beds outside. (These things which did by us, college blaming to SFI: U can see attached newspaper article) After that it become security problem of students bcz it is now issue between college n local (bcz local are CPI so SFI).
All the gates were locked and we got police protection. We were not allowed to go outside the campus, since college authorities told students once U are outside the campus we r not responsible 4 your security. This created problems for smokers, since ciggrates, tobacco are not available in campus. SFIs cutted our water supply from outside so we didn’t get water for a day. They also tried to cut power. We don’t use to keep water in our room but everybody kept some buckets of water that day when we heard that we r not going to get water 4 few days ... :) Some rumour was there that college is going to close for a month (we all were very happy n waiting 4 it ),but 50% students are outsiders are final year students have to join their job. So after two days long meeting between students , local CPI leader ,SFI leader ,Police commissioner, and director was agree to not to take action against those 6 students. But things are not coming in the newspaper that 6 radical are forgiven,and college students are angry against this . Again something will is going to happen when those 6 will come to campus since students are waiting to welcome him. Again they will bring SFIs.

Kozhikode : Classes at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) here have been temporarily suspended owing to the attack on the administrative block and breaking of drinking water supply pipes allegedly by activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Monday night.
Officials of the institute said the repair works of the pipelines were being carried out on a war footing since the disruption of water supply affected more than 2,000 students staying in the 12 hostels, including three women's hostels on the campus.
Supply of water stored in the tanks was also restricted from Monday night. Hostels could not be closed down all of a sudden since 50 per cent of the students were from outside the State, officials said.
Classes were not held on Tuesday. The college would reopen on Wednesday afternoon if the repair works were completed. Water was supplied to the college from a nearby river.
The police said NIT-C Director Ginjala Rama Chandra Reddy submitted a complaint before the Kunnamangalam police station about the untoward incidents. Apart from destroying the windowpanes of the administrative block and breaking the pipelines, the miscreants also ransacked three hostel rooms.
Officials said that a local SFI leader entered the campus hostel at night and tried to convene a meeting to which other students objected. The wardens of the hostel asked him to leave the campus. Later, a group of persons allegedly belonging to the SFI and DYFI threw stones at the administrative block and destroyed the water pipes.
Interestingly, these incidents took place when the police were present in front of the main gate. Now a large posse of policemen led by Assistant Commissioner of Police C.M. Pradeep Kumar is camping at the institute.
The classes would also have to be continued till the third week of April.



Classes resume at NIT-C

Following conciliatory talks with students' unions

Kozhikode: Regular classes at the National Institute of Technology - Calicut (NIT-C) here resumed on Thursday.
The institute was closed for two days after a mob, allegedly owing allegiance to the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), attacked the administrative block and damaged some pipes supplying drinking water on Monday night.
On Wednesday, conciliatory talks were held between NIT-C Director G.R.C. Reddy and the local leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), DYFI and SFI in the presence of Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) C.M. Pradeep Kumar. Deans and Heads of Departments of the institute also attended.
Normal supply of water was restored to the 12 hostels. There are over 2,000 students in the hostels. Supply of water was being restricted for the time being, officials said.
The meeting decided that a monitoring committee, comprising teachers, would look into the peace process. Political activities would not be allowed on campus. The deployment of police personnel would continue for the next few days. Entry for outsiders would be strictly prohibited during night.
The institute would conduct an internal inquiry into the ransacking of three hostel rooms.
Cases to be settled
Cases registered at the police station in connection with a few incidents would be amicably settled. However, the case registered in connection with destroying the pipeline would not be withdrawn, officials said.
The untoward incidents on Monday night was triggered after the wardens of the hostel and students objected to an SFI local leader convening a meeting at one of the hostels.
